How to appeal a disabled Facebook account

The steps to appeal a disabled Facebook profile from the notice, what to upload, and what to avoid while you wait.

Updated

Short answer. Log in on your usual device, open the disabled notice and choose the option to disagree or request a review. Confirm your phone or email, upload ID or a video selfie if asked, and send one short, honest explanation. Then stop and wait; repeat appeals do not help.

Before you start

Use the phone or computer you normally use for Facebook.

The appeal, in order

What to write

Three sentences at most.

Before you start

The appeal, in order

  1. Log in. The disabled screen appears instead of your feed.
  2. Choose the option to disagree with the decision.
  3. Enter the code Facebook sends.
  4. Upload ID or record the video selfie when asked.
  5. Add a short note if a box appears.
  6. Screenshot the confirmation.

What to write

Three sentences at most. Who you are, that you believe the decision is a mistake, and any honest context: a recent hack, a new phone, travel, a new admin on a Page you manage.

If there is no appeal option

Some notices say the decision is final. Read after a refused appeal for what remains.

Official route

Reference notes for this notice follow.

  1. Log in on a device you have used before and read the notice in full; it says whether you can appeal and how long you have.
  2. If you were hacked or cannot log in, start at facebook.com/hacked, even if you are not sure it was a hack.
  3. If you no longer have the email or phone, use the 'Find your account' page with any older email or number you once used.
  4. On a two-factor screen, choose 'Need another way to authenticate?' (or 'Having trouble?' on Android) to reach the identity options.
  5. Check Settings, then Account status, for restrictions on posting, messaging or Marketplace.

  2. We tell you honestly whether this is something we can help with. Terms are agreed with you before any work starts.
  3. We prepare the appeal and the supporting details, to go through the platform’s own channels.
  4. We stay in touch while you wait. The platform makes the final decision, and nobody can promise the outcome.

QUICK ANSWERS

Good to know.

Can I use someone else's ID?

No. The ID must match the profile. A mismatch is a common reason appeals fail.

Should I make a new profile meanwhile?

No. New profiles from the same person can be linked and disabled too.

Can I recover without my old email?

Often yes, through facebook.com/hacked or the identity check, if the account has enough other information.

What ID is accepted?

A passport, driving licence or national ID card is the usual choice. The name should match the profile.

How long do I have to appeal?

The disabled notice shows the window. Do not wait for the last day.
